The Music Box

The Music Box (Il Carillon, 2018) is an Italian supernatural thriller you can watch online on iFILM, directed by John Real. Six-year-old Sophie is orphaned and sent to live with her aunt Annabelle in a sprawling Victorian house. The girl finds a locked wooden box carved with a strange symbol — and Annabelle opens it.

The music box plays a little longer every time it's wound, and every time Sophie grows more disturbing to be around. A clairvoyant eventually confirms what Annabelle already fears: an evil spirit is bound to the box and fixed on the child. At 83 minutes, the film earns its dread through melody rather than gore.
