Synopsis
Queen Margot (Koroleva Margo, 1996) is a Russian historical series adapted from Alexandre Dumas that you can watch online on iFILM. In 16th-century France, with Catholics and Huguenots at each other's throats, Marguerite de Valois is married off to a Protestant king to buy a fragile peace.
The wedding instead sets off the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre, and the Valois court curdles into a nest of plots. Evgenia Dobrovolskaya plays Margot — a queen traded like a bargaining chip who quietly runs schemes of her own. The roster is a who's-who of Russian screen talent: Dmitry Pevtsov, Mikhail Efremov, Dmitry Kharatyan, Sergei Zhigunov and Mikhail Boyarsky. Love, poison, duels and palace intrigue knot together until every alliance holds only until the next convenient betrayal.
Director Alexander Muratov mounts it as a lavish cloak-and-dagger costume saga — balls, chases and passions beneath the vaults of the Louvre. Anyone raised on Soviet-era Dumas adaptations will feel right at home. Stream all episodes of Queen Margot (1996) online on iFILM.
