Paul McCartney. Rick Rubin. History in the making.
Synopsis
McCartney 3, 2, 1 (2021) is a music documentary you can watch online on iFILM. Paul McCartney and producer Rick Rubin stand together at a mixing console, and in stark black and white they take apart, track by track, songs the whole world already knows by heart.
Rubin pushes up faders on the old master tapes, and suddenly there's nothing but a bass line, or Lennon's voice with everything else stripped away. McCartney listens like a fan of his own work — recalling how a riff arrived, who suggested what in the room, why a chord went somewhere no one expected. Across six short episodes the talk runs from the early Beatles through the arena rock of Wings to fifty-plus years on his own. George Martin, Jimi Hendrix and Little Richard all drift into the conversation.
Director Zachary Heinzerling drops the narration and the archival clutter: just two men, the tape, and the talk. Made for anyone who loves music from the inside — how it was built, not only how it sounds. Stream every episode of McCartney 3, 2, 1 online on iFILM.
