Churchill (2009) is a Russian crime series you can watch online on iFILM. Boris Ermolaevich Chernyshev picked up the nickname back at the institute — partly for a passing resemblance to the British prime minister, mostly for a razor-sharp mind and an instinct for a lie that nobody could fool.

Those gifts once carried him quickly up the ranks of the Foreign Ministry. Now the same cold logic goes to work on cases where the evidence stays silent and everyone is lying. Chernyshev reads people off the small things — a pause, a slip of the tongue, one gesture too many — and has the whole picture assembled before the others finish their first question. Directed by Avdotya Smirnova, with Aleksandr Ilyin, Kirill Vasilyev, Vitaliy Kuklin and Svetlana Shchedrina, it is a detective story for viewers who prize deduction over the chase and enjoy a wry, old-school sleuth.
