Ilya Sukhomlin, Stepan Perepechko and Alexei Syrnikov enroll alongside fresh school-leavers with no military background and former conscripts who already know barracks life by heart. The freshmen sort themselves into three rival camps — cadets, schoolboys and army men — each convinced it deserves the upper hand. Drill, first crushes, pranks and real tests of character all share the same dorm. Then Makarov, a familiar face from the old days, gets transferred in and scrambles the balance of power.
