Synopsis
Passport to Freedom (2021) is a Brazilian historical drama you can watch online on iFILM. Director Jayme Monjardim builds the series around a documented story: Aracy de Carvalho, a young secretary at the Brazilian Consulate in Hamburg, quietly helping Jewish refugees escape while the Nazi noose tightened around Germany. It's 1938. Aracy has no diplomatic cover and no official mandate — but she starts issuing Brazilian passports stripped of the "J" designation that trapped Jewish holders at every border. Each stamp she withholds is a small, deliberate act of defiance. Her colleague João Guimarães Rosa arrives at the consulate cautious and by-the-book, then gradually becomes her partner in the effort, and eventually her husband. He would later be recognized as Brazil's greatest twentieth-century novelist.
