Synopsis

Boys Over Flowers (Hana Yori Dango, 2005), Season 1 is a Japanese high-school dramedy you can watch online on iFILM — nine episodes that open the whole saga. Makino Tsukushi, a working-class girl, lands a scholarship to the ultra-elite Eitoku Academy.

Four heirs of Japan's richest families run the place. They call themselves the F4. One spilled drink on Tsukasa Domyoji's white shirt sets it all off, and his red tag of war lands on Tsukushi's locker. From there: an abduction, a night stuck in a broken elevator, a snapshot that convinces the whole school they are a couple. Rui's first love Shizuka comes back from France and tangles the feelings further. The run builds toward the Teen of Japan pageant, where prize money could save Tsukushi's family and Domyoji bets against his own mother.

This first season adapts Yoko Kamio's classic manga, the source that later spawned the Korean and Taiwanese remakes. It plants everything the franchise grew from: the F4 dynamic, the stubborn girl nicknamed "weed," the swing between slapstick and melodrama. Good fit if you like underdog romance and class-divide drama. Stream Boys Over Flowers Season 1 online on iFILM.
