Synopsis
So Long, Marianne (2024) is a biographical drama you can watch online on iFILM. The series traces the love story between a young Leonard Cohen and the Norwegian woman Marianne Ihlen — the muse whose name would later title one of his most beloved songs.
Their paths cross on a Greek island where, in the early 1960s, a loose colony of poets, painters and runaways gathered to reinvent themselves. Cohen hasn't sung a note yet; he's a struggling writer of verse and novels, unsure what he's meant to become. Marianne is raising a young son and asking the same question of her own life. What grows between these two unmoored people stretches across years — tender, then fraying, as one of them drifts toward worldwide fame. Alex Wolff plays Leonard, Thea Sofie Loch Næss plays Marianne, with Øystein Karlsen and Bronwen Hughes directing.
It offers something rare: the artist before the legend, not a myth but a lost young man still hunting for his voice. The whole thing plays as an intimate study of love, freedom and the price both of them pay for it. A natural watch for Cohen devotees and anyone drawn to unhurried dramas about artists and the sixties. Stream So Long, Marianne online on iFILM.
