Synopsis
Shiva Baby (2021) is Emma Seligman's comic-drama pressure cooker you can watch online on iFILM. College student Danielle shows up to a Jewish shiva with her parents. Then she spots her married sugar daddy across the room.
What follows is one excruciating afternoon. Danielle, played by Rachel Sennott, has to keep her cool in front of everyone at once: nosy relatives, her ex-girlfriend Maya (Molly Gordon), and the older lover who, it turns out, is hiding plenty himself. Seligman crams the cast into cramped apartments and rarely lets the camera breathe. Everyone smiles. Nobody says the real thing.
The film runs a tight 77 minutes over a jittery string score that turns a family lunch into something closer to a horror film.
