Synopsis
Shababnikim (2017) is an Israeli drama series you can watch online on iFILM, following four yeshiva students caught between the demands of Orthodox Jewish life and the entirely ordinary desire to have fun.
The yeshiva they attend is elite and rule-bound. When its head dies in an accident, the strict new rabbi Ashi Spitzer steps in and tightens everything further. For the three inseparable friends — Dov, Avinoam and Meir — the tighter regime makes the usual texture of student life feel impossible. A secular botanist named Gedalia moves in next door and becomes an unlikely fixture in their world.
The series works because it takes both the religion and the rebellion seriously. It doesn't mock its characters for believing, or for struggling against what they believe. That double respect is harder to pull off than the comedy, and the show manages both. Stream Shababnikim online on iFILM.
