Synopsis
Tape (2001) is Richard Linklater's three-hander chamber drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. One cheap motel room in Lansing, Michigan, near-real-time, just three people on screen: Ethan Hawke, Robert Sean Leonard and Uma Thurman.
Vince shows up to cheer on his old high-school friend Jon, who's premiering his first film at a local festival. Beers, backslaps, easy nostalgia. Then Vince steers the talk toward a girl named Amy and something that happened between her and Jon a decade earlier. He keeps pushing. And before the night is over, Amy herself walks through the door.
Linklater shot the whole thing on handheld digital video in a matter of days, working from Stephen Belber's stage play, and turned a tiny room into a pressure cooker where the truth about that night refuses to stay fixed. If you love talk-driven cinema that lives on shifting loyalties rather than plot machinery, this one rewards close attention. Stream Tape (2001) online on iFILM.
