Synopsis

Star Trek Season 2 — watch online on iFILM — 26 episodes from 1967, and the year the show found its confidence. Most shortlists of the best Star Trek episodes are dominated by this season.

Spock goes AWOL to Vulcan, driven by a biological imperative he'd rather not explain ("Amok Time"). A transporter accident drops Kirk, Spock, and McCoy into a parallel universe where the Enterprise serves a brutal Terran Empire ("Mirror, Mirror"). A diplomatic convoy becomes a murder mystery, and the Vulcan ambassador turns out to be Spock's estranged father ("Journey to Babel"). "The Trouble With Tribbles" is twenty minutes of pure comedy — no space battle, no moral — that became the franchise's most-quoted episode. The Doomsday Machine, an ancient planet-killer, drifts through Federation space and has to be stopped.

Season 2 is where Star Trek earns its reputation. The scripts are tighter, the character work is deeper, and the range — tragedy to farce, sometimes in the same episode — was rare for 1967 television. Watch all episodes of Star Trek Season 2 on iFILM.
