There is no running plot, only a running idea. Cornered, broken people cross paths with a mermaid, a fallen angel, an unwelcome thing in the dark — and each meeting pushes them toward a desperate act. A waitress at the end of her rope, a teen nursing his bedridden mother alone, a fisherman scarred by an oil spill, a wealthy executive paying for his sins. The creature on screen is almost always a mirror for whatever already lives inside the human.

The cast pulls in Taylor Schilling, Kaitlyn Dever, Mike Colter and Kelly Marie Tran. This season sits closer to Black Mirror and The Twilight Zone than to straight horror: it trades jump scares for dread and moral collapse.
