49 Up
In 1964 a group of seven year old children were interviewed for the documentary "Seven Up". They've been filmed every seven years since. Now they are 49.
Synopsis
49 Up (2006) is a British documentary you can watch online on iFILM — the seventh installment in Michael Apted's Up series, which has followed the same group of people since they were seven years old in 1964.
Granada Television's original premise was borrowed from a Jesuit maxim: give us the child at seven and we'll show you the adult. Apted, then a researcher, has been the director for every subsequent visit — at 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, and now 49. The subjects have become recognisable figures across the series: Neil, who spent years sleeping rough before finding stability; Tony, the East End boy who wanted to be a jockey; the cluster of boys from elite prep schools who tracked almost exactly as predicted. Each new film reframes what came before it.
The Up series is the longest-running documentary project in television history. Stream 49 Up online on iFILM.
