Synopsis
Winter Sleepers (Winterschläfer, 1997) — watch online on iFILM Tom Tykwer's second feature, made two years before Run Lola Run. Four people share the same Alpine ski village: Rebecca, a translator; Marco, her ski-instructor boyfriend; Laura, a nurse; René, the local cinema projectionist.
A stolen car. A crash on an icy mountain road. A farmer named Theo loses his daughter. None of the four caused it — but every one of them is tangled in it, and Tykwer draws the connections slowly and without sentimentality. Ulrich Matthes and Heino Ferch play two very different men converging toward the same reckoning.
The film moves at a winter pace, unhurried and cold. If Lola is Tykwer at a sprint, this is Tykwer in stillness — same obsession with fate and chance, different register entirely. Stream Winter Sleepers (1997) online on iFILM.
