About

Synopsis

The Boondocks (2005) is the animated series you can watch online on iFILM, created by Aaron McGruder as a sharp political comedy about the Freeman family's collision with white suburban America. Granddad Robert wanted a quiet retirement in upscale Woodcrest. He didn't get one.

Huey is ten years old and already a committed leftist revolutionary quoting Malcolm X at school assemblies. His little brother Riley is all about gangsta rap and tagging the neighbors' fences. Together they drag Robert into situations no suburban retiree should ever face. Regina King voices both brothers; John Witherspoon plays Granddad. Guest roles brought in Samuel L. Jackson, Snoop Dogg, and Terry Crews among others.

The show ran on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block starting in 2005, and it earned its reputation by going after race, class, and American politics with a directness that live-action TV rarely matched. The animation style drew from manga influences — unusual for the time, and part of what made it distinctive. Stream all seasons of The Boondocks online on iFILM.
