Mercy Black

Mercy Black (2019) — watch online this American horror film directed by Owen Egerton on iFILM. Daniella Pineda plays Marina Hess, who as a child stabbed a classmate in a ritual attempt to summon a spirit called Mercy Black, and spent the next fifteen years in a psychiatric facility for it.

Released at last, Marina moves in with her sister and young nephew — and discovers that the Mercy Black legend has only grown during her absence, circulating through the town as local myth and online obsession. Her nephew is fixating on it the way she once did. To break that cycle, Marina has to go back to what actually happened: was there something real in that childhood ritual, or was it mass hysteria that she herself started?

Egerton, who also wrote the script, keeps the answer genuinely ambiguous longer than most genre films would dare. Blumhouse Productions backed the project, and the low-budget discipline shows in the pacing — dread by implication rather than by spectacle. Austin Amelio and Lee Eddy round out the cast.
