Synopsis
"Big Jake" (1971) is a John Wayne western you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by George Sherman, it casts Wayne as Jacob McCandles — a Texas rancher who has been absent from his family for years and rides back in only because someone has taken his grandson.
The ranch gets hit by outlaws who kill several hands and ride off with little Jake, demanding a million dollars. Maureen O'Hara plays the boy's grandmother, who calls in the Texas Rangers — and then calls Jacob, because the Rangers clearly aren't enough. Patrick Wayne, John Wayne's actual son, plays one of the McCandles boys pressed into a grudging reunion with a father they barely know. Richard Boone leads the villains with quiet, unnerving calm.
The film doesn't pause to explain itself or moralize. That restraint is what still makes it work. Stream "Big Jake" (1971) online on iFILM.
