Synopsis
The Blood on Satan's Claw (1971) is a landmark British folk horror you can watch online on iFILM. In a remote English village in the late 1600s, a ploughman named Ralph turns up a strange skull from the soil — one socket, patches of fur — but by the time he fetches the local judge, the thing has vanished without a trace.
What follows creeps in slowly. A visiting young man's bride wakes screaming, her hand twisted into a clawed paw overnight. The village children, led by the chillingly calm Angel Blake, drift into the woods to hold rituals that end in blood. The adults disbelieve, then panic. Seventeen-year-old Linda Hayden plays Angel, and her quiet menace is the engine of the whole film.
Piers Haggard's picture sits alongside Witchfinder General and The Wicker Man as one of the three pillars of English folk horror — no castles or vampires here, just fields, superstition and a devil growing straight out of the earth.
