Synopsis

The Sicilian (1987) is a crime drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Michael Cimino. Christopher Lambert stars as Salvatore Giuliano, the bandit Sicily came to call its own Robin Hood.

In the years after the war, Giuliano takes grain and land from the big estates, hands it to the poor, and dreams of tearing the island loose from Italy — even of making it an American state. His legend swells, and that frightens everyone: the state, the Church and the Mafia close ranks against a single man. Terence Stamp, Joss Ackland and a young John Turturro fill out the cast.

The script comes from Mario Puzo, who wrote The Godfather, and the director is Cimino of The Deer Hunter. Cut down for theaters, it runs longer and harsher in Cimino's own version. Worth it for the sweep and for a hero convinced he can rewrite an island's fate on his own. Stream The Sicilian online on iFILM.
