Season 1
No soldier survives alone.
Synopsis
The Liberator (2020), Season 1 — watch online on iFILM. A four-episode Netflix war drama animated in a rare technique drawn straight over live-action footage.
At its centre is Captain Felix Sparks (Bradley James) and his mixed Thunderbirds company — cowboys, Native Americans, Mexican Americans and refugees from Europe, thrown together in the 45th Infantry Division. The four episodes mark four stops on a march that runs five hundred days. The landing at Salerno and the hard early lessons of command. The grinding defence of the Anzio beachhead, where Sparks also faces a court-martial for his own calls. A move into France and another mission with no good options. And a finale where the company comes face to face with what the enemy was capable of.
Adapted from Alex Kershaw's non-fiction book, the series refuses to smooth things over: the racial friction inside the unit is as real as the fire coming the other way. The unusual animation surprises at first, then quietly sharpens the tension. Stream The Liberator Season 1 online on iFILM.
