Synopsis
Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman's Butler (2019) is a crime drama you can watch online on iFILM — a sharp origin story set long before Alfred ever answered a doorbell at Wayne Manor. Jack Bannon plays Alfred as a young SAS veteran navigating 1960s London after leaving the military, trying to build a private security firm from scratch.
His first notable client: Thomas Wayne, an American billionaire played by Ben Eldridge, alongside his wife Martha (Emma Paetz). The London around them is anything but civilised — secret societies, fascist movements, government conspiracies and street-level violence fill every episode. Creator Bruno Heller, who previously built Gotham, keeps the Batman mythology at arm's length and lets Alfred's own story carry the weight.
