Synopsis
Happy Valley (2014–2023) is a BBC crime drama you can watch online on iFILM — three seasons of Yorkshire police procedural built almost entirely around one performance: Sarah Lancashire as Sergeant Catherine Cawood, a woman doing a difficult job in a small town while raising her dead daughter's son.
The series opens with a mundane case that spirals into a kidnapping, and somewhere in that spiral is Tommy Lee Royce — the man Catherine holds responsible for her daughter's death, played by James Norton with an unsettling mix of charm and menace. The tension between the two carries through all three series, tightening season by season until the 2023 finale.
Written by Sally Wainwright, the show collected multiple BAFTA awards and built a devoted international audience — not because it reinvents the genre, but because Catherine is one of the most fully realised characters British television has produced in years.
