Synopsis
As I Lay Dying (2013) is James Franco's adaptation of William Faulkner's 1930 novel that you can watch online on iFILM — Franco directed and took a role in front of the camera.
The Bundren family loads their matriarch Addie's coffin onto a wagon for the journey to Jefferson, Mississippi, where she asked to be buried. A trip that should take two days turns into something close to a disaster: the river floods, a barn burns, and each family member carries a private grievance against the dead woman. Danny McBride, Logan Marshall-Green, and Tim Blake Nelson fill out the cast.
To capture Faulkner's shifting interior monologues, Franco used split-screen — two simultaneous perspectives running side by side. It's a film made for readers who've wondered whether the novel's structure can survive a move to cinema. Stream As I Lay Dying (2013) online on iFILM.
