Synopsis
The Brave (1997) — watch online the drama directed by and starring Johnny Depp on iFILM. Rafael lives with his family in a shantytown built on a garbage dump at the far edge of the American Southwest. Out of prison and out of options, he accepts an offer from a man named McCarthy: a large sum of money in exchange for appearing in a film. The catch — he will be killed on camera in seven days.
He takes the deal. The film doesn't turn into an escape thriller. Instead it follows those seven days quietly: time spent with his kids, his wife played by Elpidía Carrillo, and the people around him who have no idea what he's agreed to. Marlon Brando appears in a single scene, delivering McCarthy's terms across a dim office table with the calm logic of someone explaining a business arrangement.
Depp directed, co-wrote, and produced at 33, drawing on the reality of poverty in Native American communities. The film screened at Cannes in 1997 to a divided response — too slow for some, too bleak for others. It's a film about what dignity costs when the math of survival has already run out.
