Synopsis
About My Father (2023) is an American comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Stand-up comic Sebastian Maniscalco wrote the script and plays the lead, drawing on his own family — with Robert De Niro as Salvo, his Italian immigrant father who has opinions about everything. Laura Terruso directs.
Sebastian wants a smooth 4th of July weekend at his girlfriend Ellie's sprawling family estate — think golf course, private yacht, pet peacock. Then Ellie insists he bring Salvo along. Two worlds that have never heard of each other collide immediately and loudly, as Salvo sizes up the eccentric wealthy clan and they try to figure out what to make of him.
De Niro clearly had a good time here — he plays Salvo with the kind of loose, committed energy the role demands. The film is at its best in the smaller culture-clash moments rather than the broad setpieces. Stream About My Father (2023) online on iFILM.
