Synopsis
The Distinguished Gentleman (1992) is a sharp American comedy starring Eddie Murphy — watch online on iFILM. Directed by Jonathan Lynn, it follows a small-time Florida con man who spots the ultimate loophole: a longtime congressman from his district has just died, and they share the same last name. A little creative campaigning later, he's headed to Capitol Hill.
What he finds there surprises even him. Lobbyists practically queue up to hand money to anyone who'll listen, and the skills that made him a hustler back home turn out to be the standard operating procedure in Congress. The film gets more pointed as Murphy's character starts to actually care — which turns out to be the most dangerous thing he's ever done in his career. Sharp and still oddly accurate.
