She grew up in a West Virginia mining town and stumbled into boxing with no plan beyond escape. Jim Martin — played by Ben Foster — became her trainer, then her manager, then her husband. By the late 1990s, Christy was headlining cards at major arenas, televised before Don King's biggest bouts, the first woman on a Sports Illustrated cover for boxing. What the audience didn't see was the private cost: years of abuse from the man who built her career.
