Synopsis

Willis Wu waits tables in Chinatown and exists, on a cop show called Black & White, as the nameless "Generic Asian Man." Then he witnesses a crime, and the case pulls him in. Notice the episode titles: Delivery Guy, Tech Guy, Kung Fu Guy, Translator, Detective — each one a rung Willis climbs, and each promotion peels back something his neighborhood and his family had buried, including the brother who vanished. The series keeps breaking its own frame. Willis's world is literally built from procedural clichés, and the harder he digs, the more the set shows.
Charles Yu adapts his own novel for Hulu. It's metafiction first and a mystery second — a satire of the disposable Asian sidekick — so it lands as either genuinely fresh or oddly slippery, never in between. Stream Interior Chinatown Season 1 online on iFILM.
