Synopsis

Bent (1997) is Sean Mathias' wartime drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Berlin, on the edge of the Nazi purges. Max is a reckless party boy hiding from his own life until a single night strips everything away.

To survive the camp, Max passes himself off as Jewish — the Nazis rank gay men even lower, and a pink triangle is a faster death sentence than a yellow star. There he meets Horst, who refuses to lie about who he is. Their romance runs entirely on words and glances; touching is forbidden, so two men hauling rocks under the guards' eyes learn to love without ever turning their heads.

Adapted from Martin Sherman's stage play, the film keeps its theatrical bones — close, talky, stripped to the essentials. Clive Owen plays Max years before stardom, with Ian McKellen, Jude Law and Mick Jagger (as a cabaret singer) in support. A hard, honest film about a corner of the war most movies skip.
