Slash/Back

Slash/Back (2022) is the Canadian sci-fi horror you can watch online on iFILM. It unfolds in a tiny Inuit hamlet above the Arctic Circle, where a handful of teenage girls are bored, plotting their way to the summer's one good party, and counting down the last days of the short northern season. Then something crawls out of the tundra — something that wears stolen bodies and mimics people and animals to get close.

The grown-ups never catch on, and no help is coming, so the girls take the fight themselves, armed with harpoons, a shotgun and everything the land has taught them about hunting. Nyla Innuksuk's feature debut was shot on location in Pangnirtung with a cast of local first-time actors, which gives both the dread and the teenage backtalk an unusually lived-in edge.
