Synopsis
Red Lights (2012) — watch online a tightly wound psychological thriller directed by Rodrigo Cortés, starring Cillian Murphy, Sigourney Weaver and Robert De Niro. Cortés made it straight off Buried, and the controlled dread he brought to that film carries over here.
Dr. Margaret Matheson and her assistant Tom Buckley spend their careers exposing phony psychics and faith healers — hidden sensors, frame-by-frame analysis, the steady application of physics. Then Simon Silver reappears. Blind, enormously famous, and absent from public life for thirty years after his sharpest critic died under suspicious circumstances, Silver draws Buckley into a fixation that Matheson warns him to abandon. The harder Buckley looks, the less certain the ground beneath him becomes.
Weaver anchors the film with the kind of cool authority that needs no performance, and De Niro leans into Silver's ambiguity — never quite explainable, never quite debunkable. The ending polarized audiences at Sundance, which is probably the most honest endorsement this type of thriller can get. Watch Red Lights (2012) online on iFILM.
