Synopsis
Black Mountain Side (2016) is a Canadian horror film you can watch online on iFILM. It's the feature debut of director Nick Szostakiwskyj. In the frozen north of Canada, a team of archaeologists digs up a strange structure more than ten thousand years old — something that has no business being there at all.
At first it's the find of a lifetime. Then the radios die, the road out closes, and the crew is left alone. Cold, darkness and creeping paranoia do the rest: the men start hearing and seeing things that aren't there, trust falls apart, and something seems to be moving under one man's skin. The movie is in no hurry to scare you — it leans on the dread of isolation and slowly pulls its characters toward madness.
The obvious relative is Carpenter's The Thing: a handful of men, snow, an inhuman force and no way out. The budget is tiny and the effects are minimal, so the whole thing rides on suspense and sound design. It's for viewers who like cold, contained horror without showy jump scares.
