Synopsis
Close Range Love (近キョリ恋愛, 2014) is a Japanese high-school romance you can watch online on iFILM. Yuni is the top student in her class, undone by a single subject — English — and she pins the blame on a new teacher.
Cold, driven and used to winning at everything, Yuni Kururugi needs to pass English to get into a California university, so she's stuck taking daily one-on-one lessons with Haruka Sakurai, the substitute she resents for her one weak grade. The tutoring goes badly, the two clash at every turn, and something neither of them wants begins to grow between teacher and student. Tomohisa Yamashita and Nana Komatsu play the risky pair.
Director Naoto Kumazawa turns the hit manga into a soft teen melodrama about forbidden attraction — restrained, played in half-glances rather than heat. The honest angle: the film rides almost entirely on the chemistry between Yamashita and a very young Komatsu. One for fans of Japanese romance dramas and student-teacher stories.
