Ghost Stories (Season 1)

Ghost Stories (学校の怪談, 2000) is a Japanese horror-comedy anime you can watch online on iFILM, every episode in one place. Satsuki and her younger brother Keiichirō move back to their late mother's hometown, only to enroll in a school that has never quite shaken off its dead.

Construction nearby wakes a host of angry spirits, and they make the old schoolhouse their hunting ground. Pushing back is a ragtag crew of kids: a sniffling little brother, the class show-off, a bookish know-it-all, and Amanojaku — a cat with a demon riding shotgun inside him. Their one real weapon is the diary their mother left behind, a notebook that spells out how to put each haunting to rest.

The show found a second life through its notoriously loose English dub, which reworked a kids' fantasy into a cult adult comedy. The original, though, plays it straight and leans hard on the folklore dread of Japanese yōkai. A good pick when you want anime where the scares and the laughs sit side by side.
