Synopsis
Rudy (1993) is a true-story American sports drama directed by David Anspaugh — watch it online on iFILM. Rudy Ruettiger grew up in a steel mill town where college wasn't part of the plan, let alone Notre Dame. His grades were marginal, his frame was half the size of most players, and every door he knocked on told him no. He kept knocking.
Sean Astin carries the film on sheer stubbornness — the performance works because Rudy never seems heroic until the very end. John Favreau plays his best friend, Ned Beatty his skeptical father, and Charles S. Dutton the groundskeeper who becomes the one person who actually believes in him. Vince Vaughn has a small early role here too. Nobody gets a free pass; every step costs something.
Director Anspaugh and screenwriter Angelo Pizzo made Hoosiers together in 1986, and they bring the same no-shortcuts approach to football. The finale at Notre Dame Stadium has been imitated a hundred times and still lands. Stream Rudy (1993) online on iFILM.
