Synopsis
Strangers with Candy (2006) is Paul Dinello's pitch-black comedy, ready to watch online on iFILM. Jerri Blank — an ex-con, ex-junkie, ex-just-about-everything pushing fifty — walks out of prison and heads back to the home she left thirty-two years ago.
The homecoming is grim: her father lies in a coma, her stepmother has moved on, and her half-brother wants nothing to do with the resurrected relative on the doorstep. Convinced she can shock Dad awake, Jerri decides to rewind her whole life — re-enrolling in high school to finish what she once walked out on. A forty-seven-year-old freshman roaming the hallways is cringe comedy at full blast. Amy Sedaris carries the lead, surrounded by Stephen Colbert, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Sarah Jessica Parker and a very young Chris Pratt.
It's the feature-length prequel to the cult Comedy Central series, and the humor stays deliberately flat, tasteless and absurd — the kind that either hooks you in the first scene or sends you running. No lessons, just farce. Stream Strangers with Candy (2006) online on iFILM.
