Synopsis
A Journal for Jordan (2021) is a Denzel Washington romance drama you can watch online on iFILM. Headed to the war in Iraq, Sergeant Charles Monroe King starts filling a notebook for his newborn son — words meant to reach the boy in case he never makes it home.
Alongside that runs the story of how it began. New York Times editor Dana Canedy looks back on her improbable bond with Charles: two people who fit oddly together — her newsroom career, his soldier's discipline and long deployments. A child arrives between tours, and from the other side of the world the father writes down, page after page, what he hopes his son will learn about honor, love and standing tall. The same pages the boy will one day read having never really known him.
Virgil Williams adapted the screenplay from Canedy's own memoir. Michael B. Jordan and Chanté Adams lead, with Jalon Christian as young Jordan. Across 131 minutes it stays quiet and refuses to milk the grief — a restrained family drama about memory and fatherhood. It suits viewers who like understated films rooted in real lives.
