Synopsis
Monogatari (Bakemonogatari, 2009), Season 1 is the Shaft anime you can watch online on iFILM — twelve episodes that mix mystery, drama and dry comedy. Koyomi Araragi has just survived a vampire attack and clawed his way back to being mostly human.
The season plays out as five short cases, each built around a girl tangled in her own supernatural "oddity." Hitagi weighs almost nothing; a crab god took her weight. After her come a lost child trailed by a snail spirit, the sharp-tongued Suruga and her monkey's paw, quiet Nadeko under a snake curse, and class rep Tsubasa. Meme Oshino, a drifting apparition expert, helps Koyomi work through each one, mostly by talking it out.
What sets the show apart is the wall-to-wall dialogue and Shaft's flash-frame editing — title cards and held stares where most series would simply animate. On his way to Hitagi's house, Koyomi bumps in to Suruga Kanbaru, the school's basketball star and an old friend of Hitagi, of whom he can't get rid of. Later that day, Koyomi is attacked by a mysterious being.

Koyomi taps into Meme’s powers in order to lift the snake’s curse from Nadeko Sengoku, a mysterious girl he encounters at the temple.

Nadeko comes to thank Koyomi, and the two geek out over a shared interest. Tsubasa Hanekawa passes by and suddenly complains of an acute headache.
