Synopsis
Day & Night (2010) is a Pixar short film you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Teddy Newton. Two characters — one radiating daylight, one carrying a night sky inside him — stumble into each other and immediately decide the other is a threat.
Each of them is literally a window into a different world: sunlit beaches visible through Day's silhouette, moonlit cityscapes through Night's. What begins as rivalry turns into curiosity as they realize they can show each other something the other has never seen. The film runs six minutes, uses almost no dialogue (only a fragment of Wayne Dyer's voice), and manages to say something about fear of the unfamiliar without ever spelling it out. It played theatrically alongside Toy Story 3 and picked up an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Short.
