Synopsis
The Blue Max (1966) is John Guillermin's First World War aviation drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. George Peppard stars as Bruno Stachel, a poor ex-infantryman who claws his way into the cockpit of a German fighter squadron.
Among well-born pilots Stachel is an outsider, and the one path to respect is twenty confirmed kills and the airman's highest honor — the medal they call the Blue Max. He chases it with cold, single-minded nerve, and the methods stop mattering to him. General von Klugermann (James Mason) turns the climbing ace into a propaganda hero, while the general's wife Kaeti (Ursula Andress) draws Stachel into a reckless affair.
Shot with real biplanes and no digital trickery, the film runs two and a half hours and lives on dogfights that still grip. It's a study of ambition and its price, ideal for anyone who loves old-school military cinema and the early days of air combat. Stream The Blue Max (1966) online on iFILM.
