Synopsis
Sister My Sister (1994) is a British thriller you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Nancy Meckler. It reconstructs one of the most discussed cases in French legal history: what happened in a quiet Le Mans household in February 1933, when two sisters employed as maids were charged with a crime that shocked the country. Jean Genet later drew on the same case for his play The Maids.
Joely Richardson and Jodhi May play Christine and Léa, taken on as servants in the home of a widow (Julie Walters) and her daughter. The four women are effectively sealed in together — the sisters share a room, eat after the household, and have almost no contact with the outside world. Their attachment to each other becomes the one thing they control entirely. Meckler lets that attachment grow in the film's narrow frame until it becomes something the household can no longer hold.
The approach is deliberately quiet. No dramatic score, no stylised horror — just the slow tightening of a domestic arrangement that was always going to break. Stream Sister My Sister online on iFILM.
