Synopsis
Lilies (1997) is a Canadian drama — watch it online on iFILM. Director John Greyson adapts Michel Marc Bouchard's acclaimed stage play, setting it in Quebec in 1952. Bishop Bilodeau arrives at a prison to hear confession from Simon, a boyhood friend who has been inside for forty years, convicted of murder. The moment the bishop steps into the confessional, the door is locked from outside.
What follows is a play within a prison: Simon and the other inmates stage the events of their shared youth — forbidden love, a night that ended in catastrophe, and a betrayal that was never confronted. Every role, including the women, is performed by men; it isn't a gimmick but a structural choice that keeps the film's emotional logic tight. Brent Carver and Aubert Pallascio carry the central thread without flinching. Precise, unforgiving, and shaped around a single formal idea — this is a film about what four decades of unconfessed guilt looks like from the inside. Stream Lilies (1997) online on iFILM.
