Season 1
Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!
Synopsis
The Real Ghostbusters (1986), Season 1 is a thirteen-episode cartoon you can watch online on iFILM. It picks up where the hit movie left off: four scientists with proton packs still scrubbing New York clean of the supernatural out of an old firehouse.
This first season lays down the format. Peter, Ray, Egon and Winston roll out call after call, with secretary Janine and Slimer — the green, perpetually hungry mascot — never far from the chaos. He's the one who carelessly lets ghosts loose from the Containment Unit, and the trouble snowballs from there: a spirit who animates appliances and blacks out the city, a Sandman who wants to put humanity down for a five-hundred-year nap, Samhain breaking free on Halloween, trolls seizing a bridge. The finale flings the team back through time to save Scrooge and repair a Christmas they accidentally broke. Episode thirteen is literally titled "X-Mas Marks the Spot."
The show came from the studio that later ran Transformers, and J. Michael Straczynski wrote a chunk of the scripts, so the wit cuts sharper than most kids' animation of the era. It works for anyone who grew up on these episodes in the eighties and for children meeting them for the first time. Stream The Real Ghostbusters Season 1 online on iFILM.
