Synopsis
Stage Mother (2020) is Thom Fitzgerald's dramedy, ready to watch online on iFILM. Maybelline ran a church choir in small-town Texas until her estranged son died and left her a drag bar in San Francisco.
Jacki Weaver plays the buttoned-up widow who suddenly lands backstage among sequins, feathers and the very performers she'd once have preached against. The club is buried in debt, and saving it means learning to love the people her son called family. Lucy Liu is his old friend; Adrian Grenier and drag artist Mya Taylor fill out her new world.
Fitzgerald plays it warm rather than weepy, and the real story is a mother catching up, far too late, to a son she never quite knew. Easy to recommend if you like films about acceptance and growing up well past your twenties. Watch Stage Mother (2020) online on iFILM.
