Monster Hunt

Monster Hunt (捉妖记, 2015) is a Chinese adventure fantasy from director Raman Hui — stream it online on iFILM. In a world where humans and spirits once shared the same ground, an uneasy order has long since collapsed. Now the last of the monster-kind are either hiding or ending up on someone's dinner plate.

An ordinary village boy named Song Tianyin accidentally becomes the unlikely host — and surrogate parent — of Wuba, the infant heir to the monster throne. Bai Baihe plays Huo Xiaolan, a monster hunter who arrives planning to sell the creature and stays to protect it. The two make a mismatched team as they outrun both human bounty hunters and power-hungry demon lords who want the child for very different reasons.

Wuba himself is the film's real achievement — a computer-animated creature so expressive that the audience genuinely roots for him. Monster Hunt broke Chinese box-office records on release in 2015, earning over $240 million. Watch it on iFILM.
