Synopsis
Jane Eyre (2006) is a BBC miniseries you can watch online on iFILM, adapted from Charlotte Brontë's novel by director Susanna White. Ruth Wilson, in her breakout role, plays the penniless governess; Toby Stephens is her brooding employer, Edward Rochester.
Raised without affection in the house of a cruel aunt, Jane takes a post at Thornfield Hall, a gloomy Yorkshire estate where someone laughs behind a locked door on the top floor. Its master is sharp, mocking and plainly unhappy. A bond grows between him and the quiet, stubborn governess that both are slow to name aloud. And the walls of Thornfield hide a secret with the power to undo everything.
Wilson refuses to play Jane as a victim, giving her a spine of iron, and that banked intensity carries all four episodes. This version runs warmer and more sensual than earlier adaptations, trading costume-drama stiffness for longing looks and held breath. It will land with anyone who loves British drama drawn from Victorian fiction. Stream every episode of Jane Eyre (2006) online on iFILM.
