Synopsis
Snow Cake (2006) is a Canada-UK drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Marc Evans and led by Alan Rickman and Sigourney Weaver in roles neither of them had played before.
Alex (Rickman) is fresh out of prison and on a grim errand — to tell a stranger's mother her daughter is dead after a roadside accident he survived and she didn't. The mother, Linda (Weaver), is a high-functioning autistic woman in a quiet Ontario town who has her own rhythms, her own rules, and zero need for anyone's grief management on her behalf. Carrie-Anne Moss plays a neighbor who holds a few of Alex's secrets.
Weaver's performance is the whole reason to seek this film out — she plays Linda without a single note of condescension or movie-of-the-week sentiment. What looks like a quiet Canadian drama turns into a precise study of two people trapped by guilt and memory finding something unexpected in each other. Stream Snow Cake online on iFILM.
