Next Door

Next Door (Naboer, 2005) is a Norwegian psychological thriller directed by Pål Sletaune — watch it online on iFILM. John, played by Kristoffer Joner, has just been dumped. He's alone in his apartment when two women next door open their door and invite him in.

What starts as a diversion turns quickly into something else. The women know details about John's life — and about his ex — that they shouldn't. Sletaune methodically dissolves the line between what's happening and what John might be projecting, until neither the audience nor the character can be sure. Shot almost entirely inside a few cramped rooms, the film generates its dread from confinement and suggestion rather than effects. Mikael Nyqvist appears in a supporting role.
