Mirabelle sells gloves at a Beverly Hills department store. She's an aspiring artist, mostly in the sense that she hasn't stopped trying yet. Then Ray Porter appears: older, wealthy, attentive in a way that feels like rescue. And Jeremy is still around — broke, directionless, fonder of her than he knows how to show. Mirabelle gets to choose. Or thinks she does.

The film is more interested in the aftermath of romantic choices than in the choices themselves — what it costs to let someone glamorous fill the space where your own life should be, and what's left when they leave.
